UK: Red Communications promoting fresh produce

Red Communications was founded in 1996 and is a UK based marketing and public relations agency for the fresh produce sector, offering integrated marketing services.
Red designs and implements integrated marketing and public relations campaigns for own-label and branded fresh produce products, on behalf of trade associations, embassies, importers and retailers.

John Valentine, Managing Director at Red explains: "We are a UK-based company with the capabilities, knowledge and experience to execute campaigns both nationally and across Europe."

"Our multilingual team understands the fresh produce supply chain and we work closely with fresh produce buyers, marketing teams and legal departments in the major retailers, as well as with growers, importers and exporters to ensure the best results are achieved for our clients."

Red also has strong links with the consumer media and trade press, as well as with bloggers, restaurants, charities and chefs, and says it is proud of the results is has achieved for its clients. Red also makes it a priority to understand consumers and frequently conducts consumer research projects for retailers and their suppliers.

Red campaigns:
A notable Red campaign was the South African Grapefruit Challenge. The challenge was for female participants to eat a grapefruit a day for 2 weeks. The participants reported huge improvements in the way they looked and felt. The story of the challenge generated widespread trade and consumer coverage, and was even featured in the national press, including The Daily Telegraph, The Times, the Guardian and The Daily Mail.

RED have also been involved in the promotion of Picota cherries. This campaign was launched in 2001. Research suggests that picotas are now actively sought out by consumers, who are aware of its short window of availability. During the last 5 years sales have increased from 950,000 punnets to 9.7 million - a tenfold increase. No mean feat when the season only lasts 6 weeks.
