US: Northwest cherry growers worried by weather reports

Northwest cherry growers are a little concerned by recent weather forecasts. The harvest is set to commence next week, but the predictions are for low temperatures, in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

Cool weather - and rain - are likely to delay the fruit's ripening, giving growers less time to sell their fruit and making it more difficult to hire labor.

There are also concerns, if the rain does come, it may cause the cherries to crack. However, with cherry cultivation spread across 700 miles, the orchards will experience different weather conditions, meaning some of the fruit should make it to market in fine condition.
