State Senators Pattie Richie and Hugh Farley joined with Assemblymen Jim Tedisco, George Amedore and Pete Lopez on the "Family Farmers and Apple Growers Relief Act."

The proposed bill would establish a tax credit for the 2012 fiscal year, allowing a grower to claim back 35% of the value of their crop losses. Some of the growers lost as much as 80% of their crops.

The apple industry in the state employs in the region of 10,000 people and is worth an estimated $233 million.
