Spain: Bosito, Eureka and Tezac - cantaloupes by Seminis for greenhouse
For two days, technicians by Seminis explained the characteristics of those varieties, together with Saladino, a galia variety melon that also surprised the ones having the chance to visit "Living Proof" and get to know and try this variety.
Cantaloupe
Although, the star varieties for the day were Bosito, Eureka and Tezac, centering all attentions and visitors taste. Regarding Bosito, this is a round melon with some thin and deep strips. It has wide wrinkles and good conservation capacity. So, as explained by Héctor Ramos, commercial delegate for Monsanto, Bosito is a melon "with an important commercial profitability" and moreover, a good behavior in the outbreak. So, it's a good variety for greenhouses.
Bosito's plant is of high vigor and good development on early plantations. It has a grouped curdle, giving good fruits of good commercial size.
Other of the varieties calling up the attention was Eureka, a round uniform melon, varying between 0.9 and 1.2 kilos on average and it's ready for greenhouses. It's a melon with a short producing cycle, with an attractive skin color, changing from grey to pale white in the cutting point, clearly setting the sutures. It's flesh is intense orange with a high sugar content.
The plant is of medium vigor, with a good fruits cover for early plantations. It has an easy curdle.
The trio is complete with Tezac, a variety recommended for early and mid plantations, with a round fruit of regular size. Tezac has a solid cut and a good behavior on cracking. It's plant is of good vigor, scaled curdle and high productivity.
Galia
Next to the three Cantaloupe varieties, galia also had a role during the field day, thanks to Saladino. According to Ramos, Saladino is a melon adapted to "mid and late cultivations in greenhouses, specially recommended for vertical cultivation, offering some precociousness". He insisted that is a melon "with a quite green flesh and a lot of taste".
The Saladino fruit is round and has an uniform size, varying between 0.8 and 1 kilo on average. Moreover, it's flesh is slightly creamy, with a small cavity, reaching high levels of sugar. Even so, it's a melon to satisfy the demand of distribution chains as it has a good conservation capacity.
Galia and the Cantaloupe varieties had a big success among the ones coming to the greehouse. The distinction was made on the taste and quality on all the melon varieties by Seminis.
