Switzerland: Migros to label Israeli settlement produce

Recently FreshPlaza reported that Denmark was commencing labelling indicating produce that had been grown in Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories. Now Swiss wholesaler, Migros, is doing the same thing.

Migros sells a number of items grown in Israeli settlements, such as dates, herbs, fruit and potatoes. Currently the items are labelled as Israeli produce, despite being grown in the West Bank or the Gaza Strip.

From mid 2013 they will be labelled depending on location, like "West Bank, Israeli settlement area" or "East Jerusalem, Israeli settlement area."

"We want to ensure transparency, so that the customer can decide if he wants to buy the product or not," said Migros spokesperson Monika Weibel.
