Gerard Sevenhuijsen (Tuindersbelang):

"Netherlands: "Cabbage market not as bad because of demand from Eastern Block"

Sales of white and red cabbage are, according to Gerard Sevenhuysen of Tuindersbelang from Warmenhuizen, are not as bad as they were. The reason for this is the increasing demand from abroad. "The demand from the Eastern Block countries, such as Russia but also Bulgaria and Hungary, has increased somewhat."

The selling price of the white cabbage is about 5 cents and of the red cabbage 6 cents at the moment. "Not good prices, but not too bad a market," Sevenhuijsen concludes, who finds it difficult to give a prognosis of the market for the coming period. Tuindersbelang has been active in the mediation of red and white cabbage since 2006.
