US (CA): Tulare County Crop Report week ending April 21st

Field crops:
Warmer soil temperatures are benefiting bean plantings. The recent rainfall should benefit field crops in general.

Deciduous tree fruits, nuts and grapes:
Stone fruit trees continue to leaf out and their fruit continues to develop. Hail that fell last week has damaged some stone fruit but the extent of the damage has yet to be determined. Walnut trees are still continuing to bloom. Grapes and kiwi vineyards are in shoot elongation stages. Pomegranates and persimmon orchards are pushing spring foliage. Pistachios are still being exported to Germany, the European Union, Australia, China and Israel.

Citrus Avocados and Olives:
Valencia oranges continue to be picked and packed for export to Japan, China and Taiwan. Maturity testing will continue to be done on Valencia oranges. Lemons are still being exported to Japan and New Zealand. Navel oranges are still being exported to Korea, Japan and China.

Vegetables, melons and berries:
Strawberries, onions, and sweet peas continue to be harvested and sold at road side stands. Eggplants have recently just begun to be planted. Tomato, pepper and squash plants are currently being planted.
