Spain: First Galia melons with high prices

In this first week of April the Galia melon Galia is arriving at the commerce centres in Almería. Small amounts with prices starting at 0.90 Euro - 1.25 Euro per kilo. From now on, amounts will raise progressively.

This week there is a slight price rise for large cucumber, quoted between 0.20 and 0.45 Euro, the Spanish variety is between 0.50 Euro 0.80 Euro and French cucumbers are quoted at between 0.50 and 0.75 Euro per kilo.

Courgette, both small and large, starts at 0.20 Euro - 0.42 Euro per kilo. The general tendency is for the reduction of amounts of pepper, specially California and Lamuyo and of other traditional winter cultivations like eggplant or courgette.

Regarding the eggplant, the large ones continue at quite low prices from 0.15 - 0.30 to Euro, while stripped eggplant cost from 0.70 - 1.30 Euro per kilo.
California pepper production is less and less significant, but prices remain stable, with the exception of the yellow pepper that has an average cut of 0.35 Euro. The red pepper varies between 0.45 - 0.80 Euro and the green between 0.75 - 0.90 Euro per kilo.

Lamuyo green registers first cuts of 1.20 to 0.55 Euro and the red quotes between 0.60 - 0.95 Euro per kilo. Italian green went a bit up, with first cuts at 1.35 ending at 1.00 Euro per kilo. This is due to new productions being harvested. Italian red is sold between 0.70 - 0.95 Euro per kilo.

Regarding the commerce of tomato, quotations remain stable and significant changes were only registered at origin. Sweet tomato quotes between 0.45 and 0.70 Euro, on the vine has a first cut at 0.55 and ends around 0.40 Euro, while large tomato varies are between 0.42 and 0.60 Euro per kilo. Green beans dropped in price in the last seven days due to a bigger offer.
