Even though an increase in exports of paprika over 30% is expected this year, the bi-monthly report from customs showed a significant drop, the total amounted to USD 8.9 million, with an average price at a downward trend of USD 2.37/Kg., which meant a fall of 3.6% over what was achieved last year (USD 9,266,760).
In this period the main buyer was the United States with 49% of total shipments, followed by Mexico (35%), moving out of the way Spain (12%), having amongst its main exporters Eco Acuicola with 15% of the total exported, CorporaciĆ³n Capas (14%), displacing the CorporaciĆ³n Misky (5%) and Exportadora Norpal (9%).
Canned peppers
Also, the canned pepper exports reached USD 4.4 million, which meant a drop of 55.4%, at an average price of USD 2.07/Kg., down eight points in relation to the amount that was sold last year.
In the same period Spain was the main destination with USD 3.2 million (73% of total), followed by Germany (USD 470,000) and the United States (USD 361,000). the main marketer was Camposol with 25% of the total, followed by Sociedad Agricola Viru (25%) and Danper Trujillo (21%).
Canned
Not all was lost, during this same period the export of canned peppers and various chilli totalled USD 5.4 million, which produced a growth of 17.2% compared to January and February of last year, highlighting the pepper with USD 4.3 million, paprika chilli (USD 887,000), yellow chilli (USD 49,000) and panca chilli (USD 27 million).
The United States, the main buyer, with USD 4 million, followed by Argentina (USD 257,000) and Puerto Rico (USD 217,000), having among our major exporting companies Gandules SAC with 63% of the total, Danper Trujillo (8%) and
Eco Acuicola (6%).
