Falabella to enter Mexico

Falabella, the Chilean retail conglomerate, reportedly plans to enter the Mexican retail market later in 2012, as part of its continued expansion across Latin America. Besides its home market, the group already has a presence in Colombia, Peru and Argentina.

According to the Diario Financiero paper, in an uncited report, Falabella opted for Mexico over entering the Brazil market. The move will pit it against market leader Walmex, as well as chains such as Sears.

The group itself has declined to comment on the report, which did not say how much Falabella planned to invest on the move or how many stories it would look to open.
