NZ: Children in need to get All Good fairtrade bananas

New Zealand company, All Good Bananas, have announced plans to give away 25,000 bananas in partnership with The KidsCan Charitable Trust.

They are asking the public to get involved and pledge bananas to children they feel are in need of them, via the company facebook page. The bananas will then be distributed to selected KidsCan schools.

All Good are responsible for the import of all of New Zealand's fairtrade bananas.

"We're helping to support 900 children of banana farmers and workers in Ecuador through the Fairtrade system," says All Good Director Simon Coley. "But then we had a look in our own backyard".

"Thousands of children are living in poverty in New Zealand and many of them turn up to school hungry. We wanted to help do something about it. When people pledge their support via our Facebook page, they will be helping some the country's most vulnerable kids to get a year's worth of weekly deliveries of fresh bananas. It's just something small that we can do to help these kids out."

KidsCan GM Marketing & Fundraising, Jan Clark said "We are delighted to be the recipient charity for this campaign - bananas are a nutritional complement to our existing food programme in selected schools. In many cases our children do not have a lot of fresh fruit in their diets, and bananas will give them a great energy boost."
