One of the main challenges that are set by Almeria's companies of different economic sectors in the province, is internationalization, even more at times in which firms need to seek new markets when domestic consumption falls. However there are companies, that had already given themselves this challenge, today, the foreign market accounts for the most of their business volume. This is the case of Agricola Vasan, a family business, driven by three generations, but officially formed in 1997 in El Ejido.
According to Manuel Gomez, manager of the firm, 90% of its sales occur in the English market, it specifically provides fresh produce to two supermarkets and other outlets through intermediaries.
Agricola Vasan owns 16 hectares for the cultivation of peppers and eggplants. They annually sell around two million kilos of these vegetables. Some of these supermarkets only sell this company's eggplant from AlmerÃa pointed out Gomez.
The company, which employs about 32 people, is not planning to expand production because, as according to the manager, they prefer to stay at the current size, to be able to remain a family property, which has the ability to control all business and have more dedication.
