India: Plans for durian preservation to ensure wider supply

K. V. Thomas, Minister of State for Agriculture, has said that the Central Government will provide financial support to help the preserve jackfruit/durian.

He was inaugurating the Fruit Processing Scheme of the People’s Service Society on Friday when he said that Jackfruit is like the ‘Kalpakavriksha” that has wide usage.

The jackfruit is going to waste in the absence of a scheme to help preserve it.The Minister said that a jackfruit processing scheme will be implemented in Attappady as part of the Centre government’s special agriculture package for this most backward tribal areas of the district.
