UK: Tesco abandons green label

Tesco is abandoning its commitment to the carbon reduction label, which it was the first UK supermarket chain to use. Tesco announced the label to great fanfare just four years ago, however, representatives of the chain have stated that it has become too time consuming and too expensive to use.

At the time it was launched the new label was hailed by then CEO of Tesco, Sir Terry Leahy as the start of a “revolution in green consumption”.
