Fiji: Flood damage limited, but produce supplies affected

Floods over the weekend do not appear to have caused any significant damage.
However, John Cox, principal agricultural officer northern has stated that there would be an impact upon fruit and vegetable production for the coming months.

"We have been out surveying flood affected areas and we have not seen much damage caused in these areas," he said. "Farms, including cane farms, were damaged but not extensively.

Mr Cox confirmed plans had been considered to provide help to farmers in the wake of the floods.

"The supply of vegetables and root crops will be short in the next few months and people are advised to preserve damaged crops and vegetables for their farms," he said.
