Italy and Philippines consider debt swap deal to fund traceability

The Philippines has entered into discussions with Italy in a bid to secure funding for a food traceability scheme that will ensure its produce is saleable in such markets as Europe and the US.

Italy is looking into a debt swap deal worth almost 3 million Euro to the Philippines. The money would be used to fund software that can be used to assure the supply chain and consumers in export markets of the bio-safety of Filipino produce.

Currently the scheme is being tested on bananas, pineapples, coconuts and mangoes.
