Mexico just finished its mango season and right now, mangos available in the US come from Brazil. “The country started shipping a little earlier than normal as they were expecting a strong market,” says Sergio Palala with Splendid Products. “The expectations weren’t met as the market is much lower than last year,” added Palala. Brazil will continue to ship through October with the majority of volume entering the US in Philadelphia and Miami. No transition period
“Mexico’s production was so heavy this year that there hasn’t been a transition period. Some regions, like Sinaloa in Southern Mexico, carried mangos longer than normal,” mentioned Palala. As a result, volumes have continued to stay strong and grocery stores are still promoting mangos. Palala is cautiously optimistic about price development. “Hopefully, it will get a little stronger in the next few weeks.”
Ecuador starts shipping after Brazil. The country has some product in route to the US, but volumes are very conservative due to low prices.
