Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, Nigeria has disclosed plans by his government to soon starting exporting vegetables to the United States of America. Obiano described the development as a milestone in view of the current naira to dollar exchange rate, adding that it is a sure way of coming out of the economic recession.
He revealed that the freight operator responsible for the conveyance of the agricultural produce to the UK, had recently secured the license to export them to the US, due to the quality of the vegetables and the sanitary situation around the farms where they were planted.
"This was achieved through my administration's deliberate efforts to put the necessary measures in place to ensure accessibility of the products, provision of improved seedlings to the farmers and adequate trainings for them in collaboration with a European Union Team, on how to plant to meet export standards," he added.
Earlier the state government commenced exportation of vegetables to Europe with no less than $5m earnings.
