Transnistria to supply processed vegetables to Russia and Israel
The Agricultural Ministry says that the Federal Contracts solved the main problem of the farmers – the search for consumers. The move is expected to see a rise in sweetcorn, pea and tomato production, at the same time as creatign many jobs.
The products are epxcted to start being exported next season.
The Minister of Agriculture of the Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic, Mr. Nikolay Nedelkov says: "The capacities will be increased more than tenfold. If we do the calculation for canned products produced now, we will see that the actual capacity is about 20, 10, 15 million cans. For the newly signed contracts we will need 80 million cans only for Russia and about 25 thousand tons of tomato paste packed in barrels. These are huge production amounts."
Mr. Nedelkov, the Minister of Agriculture says: "Our researching team is working now. It will point out which pump stations can be recovered at the minimum cost and to the maximum effect. We are looking for the options which can bring fast and simpler effect at this stage.
"The farmers will get the Federal order to grow certain vegetables. Grain and other plants of low efficiency will be minimized in the irrigated fields," – the Minister says. "Moreover, the Government reduces the tariffs for irrigation services. The farmers will pay only 0.48 RUB per cubic meter of water against 0.8 RUB tariff that we apply today."
