On February 23, pineapples from Xuwen were exported by sea. A week later, the pineapples will be expected to appear on the shelves of supermarkets in Singapore. This was the first time that Xuwen pineapples had been exported to Singapore under RCEP.
On February 23, the launching ceremony of Xuwen's pineapple export to Singapore under RCEP was held at the Nuoxiangyuan Agricultural Products Professional Cooperative Base in Xuwen County. Boxes of neatly stacked pineapples were ready for export to Singapore. The 5-tonne of pineapples will be shipped to Shenzhen and then exported by sea from Shekou port to Singapore. It is reported that this is the first batch of Xuwen pineapples exported this year, and it is also the first time that Xuwen pineapples have been exported to Singapore, an RCEP country, after the RCEP took effect.
Ideally, it would take 8 days to get the pineapples from the field to the supermarkets. The sea freight would take about 4 to 5 days. The pineapples are now expected to appear on the shelves of supermarkets in Singapore in a week's time.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Guangdong Province, the planting area of pineapples in Guangdong is expected to be 586,000 mu in 2022, and the overall production is good. It is expected that the output will reach 1.233 million tons, an increase of 1.1% year on year. The expected output of pineapples in Xuwen County will be 700,000 tons, which remains stable year on year. The output of pineapples in Leizhou City is expected to reach 399,000 tons, an increase of 3.1% year on year.
The variety of pineapple grown in Guangdong is mainly Bali, and the proportion of pineapple production of other new varieties has gradually increased. The earliest pineapple is produced on the Leizhou Peninsula, which is on the market from January to June. The production reaches its peak from mid-March to mid-May. Shenwan pineapples from Zhongshan and smooth cayenne pineapples from Lufeng will follow one after another on the market.
