Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) has reported that the nation positioned itself in 2021 as the world’s leading exporter of fresh grapes. During the past year, Peruvian grape exports reached US$ 1,260 million, which represents a growth of 22% compared to 2020.
In this way, Peru surpasses Chile (US$ 928 million) as the main supplier of grapes in the world. Positions 3 and 4 also include the United States ($782 million) and China ($757 million).
The grape is the main agricultural export product in the coastal regions, representing 17% of the shipments of this productive sector. Ica and Piura lead the exports of this fruit and they register shipments for US$ 605 million (+32%) and US$ 488 million (+10%) respectively. These regions concentrate 87% of the country’s grape exports.
Other regions that sold grapes abroad were Lambayeque, with US$71 million (+21%); La Libertad, with US$67 million (+45%), and Arequipa, with US$19 million (+1%).
