"The start of the Dutch pepper campaign will be delayed until April"

Almeria's pepper prices continue to improve in February

Almeria's pepper campaign has already crossed its halfway point, according to the latest campaign report prepared by the Andalusian Government's Prices and Markets Observatory corresponding to week 5. In its analysis, the agency reports that the rise in daytime temperatures has allowed achieving a higher rate of fruit ripening and a slight increase in the marketed production. However, the pace of production continues to be limited by weather conditions.

"In February, large sizes begin to dominate pepper production, which makes it difficult to produce tricolor packaging, the main format demanded by export markets."

“On the international scene, demand maintains the pace of previous weeks and Almeria finds little interference from other origins in export markets. The start of the Dutch pepper campaign is expected to be delayed until April. The rise in gas and electricity prices has forced early pepper producers to delay the transplant date in order to reduce costs. This will reduce competition from Spanish production in the final phase of the Almeria campaign."

Prices are increasing
The yellow California pepper achieved the highest average price of the week, followed by the Italian, and red California, the report stated. The California green (26%), California yellow (19%), California red, and Italian peppers (13%) achieved the greatest price increases over the previous week.

The price of the red Lamuyo increased by 6% and the price of the green Lamuyo remained stable.
