"I think the campaign will peak in January when it previously took place in December"

Peru has more and more late table grape varieties

Peru exported 83,000 tons of table grapes between May and November 14, 2021, i.e. 6% more than the 78,000 tons it exported in the same period of the previous year.

The president of the consulting firm Inform@cción, Fernando Cilloniz Benavides, said that he was convinced that, even though table grape exports do not increase as much as avocado and blueberry exports, they would have a greater increase at the end of the campaign 2021/2022 than what they've had so far.

This greater dynamism that he projects in table grape exports is due to the fact that Peru has more and more late varieties. Thus, he estimates that there will be more grapes in December, January, and especially in February.

"I believe the campaign will no longer peak in December and that it will now peak in January because there are many late varieties, especially the patented varieties, that have higher production yields," he said.

According to the Association of Table Grape Producers of Peru (Provid), Peru will export 62.5 million boxes of table grapes (8.2 kilograms each box) in the 2021/2022 campaign, i.e. 9% more than in the previous season (2020/2021).
