Nigerian farmers see hectares of potato fields submerged by flood

Nigerian farmers in Galam - Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State – have seen many  hectares of potato fields submerged by water. Secretary of the Potato Farmers Association of Nigeria (POFAN) Abdullahi Abba has appealed to the federal government to intervene, in order to reduce the effects of losses incurred by members of the association.

He said: β€œOn August 21, 2021, flood submerged and destroyed our potato farms. … The flood came on our farms as a result of Rivers Benue and Gongola overflowing their banks.”

As food prices continue to soar the recent floods are compounding the challenges within the food production industry and they are frustrating farmers across the country. Food prices are said to increase considerably, and many Nigerians may be in real trouble if nothing is done to tackle these  problems.
