Eastern apples now available

As Keystone Fruit Marketing, a division of Progressive Produce, knows, apples and autumn go hand in hand.

Crisp, juicy apples have long been part of Keystone's history. Established in 1977, Keystone got its start marketing local Pennsylvania apples and since then has earned a reputation as a reliable produce industry partner within the apple, sweet onion, peach and watermelon categories.

Lisa Fetterhoff says that apples, like many commodities across the U.S., are facing challenges such as labor shortages, higher transportation costs and delays in the supply chain.

"We value relationships with our customers and growers and we pride ourselves on our commitment to high standards of integrity and quality when it comes to bringing you fresh products all year long," said Lisa Fetterhoff, director of operations.

Apples are an excellent commodity for retailers to promote in October and November with seasonal promotions around the autumn holidays. The 2021 harvest is currently underway and Keystone will continue picking apples from Virginia and Pennsylvania through early November. Volume is up from last year in most varieties, especially Gala, Fuji and Pink Lady.

"Like the rest of the U.S. economy, the apple industry is also facing labor shortages, higher transportation costs and delays in the supply chain,” said Fetterhoff. "We are doing everything we can to ensure that orders are fulfilled 100 percent, delivered on time and are reasonably priced so consumers can enjoy our Eastern apples all season long!"
