Christophe Besnard, purchase manager Fruit and Vegetables at Relais Vert:

“No shortage of stone fruit this year and the quality was better than last year”

With 25,000 tons of fruit and vegetables sold each year and 250 to 280 products offered each day on the market, Relais Vert has made its place as a true link between manufacturers, producers and organic stores. For more than 35 years, the company has been developing additional expertise in sourcing, packaging, supply, processing, ripening and consulting. This year, the main challenge for the company was to meet the demand by offering a maximum of products made in France. “This means investing, planning and committing to our producers and manufacturers,” explains Christophe Besnard, purchase manager Fruit and Vegetables at Relais Vert.

This is essential for Relais Vert, which favors long-term relationships based on trust with local producers, some of whom have been working with the group since the beginning. “92% of our producers are French and we work directly with 240 producers, without any intermediary. For our peaches and nectarines, for example, we have been working almost exclusively with just 1 production in the Roussillon for several years.”

Volumes available despite the poor weather
The salads have been particularly impacted by the bad weather, destroyed by the spring frost and the summer rains. For the tomatoes, the campaign was quite decent in terms of prices, quality and volumes, with an offer in line with the demand. And for the stone fruit, although the season was shorter, there were volumes available and the quality was better than last year thanks to the drier weather in the production basin.

About Relais Vert
Relais Vert has been a wholesaler of organic products since 1986. It is an independent family business, first and foremost. Also active in the domains of agriculture, poultry and cereals, the group based in Carpentras offers a complete range of products (fruit and vegetables, fresh, dried, frozen, wine, beer, spirits) and distributes these products in organic stores in France. With 290 collaborators, Relais Vert works on the balance of the organic ecosystem with different objectives including a constant search for innovation, an ever-growing offer of products based on quality, a support of the producers and local production by helping the sectors and a sustainable commitment from the producer to the consumer through strong values and the Relais Vert Foundation, whose mission is to promote eco-responsible actions in sports and cultural events.

Relais Vert will be present at Salon Natexpo (Booth Q61) on October 24-26, 2021.
