"Imported fruits are difficult to sell, and the prices of some products are falling"

Hangzhou is the capital city of Zhejiang Province. In recent years, more and more types of imported fruits have appeared on the market and the volume has also increased. However, due to the epidemic, the market for imported fruits this year is not very satisfactory. Hangzhou Muguo Legend Fruit Wholesale Co., Ltd. is a secondary wholesaler in the Hangzhou area. Mr. Luo, Manager of the company talked about the sales of several fruit products that are selling well.

"The overall situation in the market this year is that imported fruits are not selling well and prices are falling. Many local fruit merchants, including us, have reduced their sales of imported fruits and shifted their focus to domestically produced premium fruits. For example, National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival are coming soon. During this time period in previous years, companies that wanted to import fruit had a lot of orders, but recently these old customers often want domestic products.” Mr. Luo said.

"There are two reasons for this phenomenon. The first is that imported fruits were affected during the epidemic, and the rise of domestic boutique fruits has made many consumers aware of the high quality of domestic produce. In addition, due to factors such as the epidemic and port congestion, logistics is not convenient. For wholesalers, it is more convenient and time-efficient to connect with domestic production areas."

"The best-selling oranges from Spain are the oranges produced in Spain. This year our sales volume in Hangzhou is about 80% lower than in previous years. Except for a few regular customers, there are basically no other merchants. The reason why we are still doing it is that some channels still have requests. We are a secondary wholesaler. We take goods from the wholesale market and resell them according to the needs of customers. For us, there is no risk of unsalable goods. At present, the wholesale price of Spanish oranges is around 250 RMB/carton (9 kg), which is basically the same as in previous years. Apart from Spanish oranges, Peruvian blueberries are selling well. Now there is a gap for domestic blueberries. Peruvian blueberries have just started to be sold in the market, and the quantity of arrivals is not large, so the sales of the first batch of fruits are relatively good. The wholesale price in Hangzhou is around RMB 100/carton (12 small boxes), which is basically normal."

"Recently, we have also sold a small number of fruits such as American green plums, Australian oranges, and South African grapefruits. Although the amount of imported fruits is relatively small this season, since the supplies are more than the market demand, the prices of some products have been falling compared to previous years."

When talking about the recent sales plan, Mr. Luo said, “We have focused our recent sales on domestic products. At present, we are looking for domestic suppliers of peaches from Xinjiang, pomegranates from Sichuan, and blueberries from Yunnan. We hope to bring fresh fruits from these origins to consumers in Hangzhou! "
