In the last 5 seasons, Almeria's tomato exports decreased by 21% while its purchases from Morocco increased by 200%

The province of Almeria dominated Spanish tomato exports in 2020 with 58.44% of total sales, according to data from the Estacom statistical service (Icex-Tax Agency) prepared by Hortoinfo. In 2020, Spain exported 728.81 million kilos of tomatoes for 934.84 million euro and an average price of € 1.28/kg. The province of Almeria exported 425.91 million kilos for 529.45 million euro and an average price of € 1.24/kg.

However, Almeria's export volume has been decreasing year after year. In the last 5 campaigns, the province's export volume has fallen by 20.85%, from 538.11 million kilos in 2016 to 425.91 million kilos in 2020.

In the same period, the province has increased its imports of Moroccan tomatoes by 198.39%, from 3.72 million kilos of tomatoes in 2016 to 11.1 million kilos in 2020.

Murcia
Murcia was the second-biggest Spanish tomato exporter by volume in 2020 with 81.21 million kilos (11.14% of the total exported by Spain) worth 79.15 million euro and an average price of € 0.97/ kg.

During the last five years, Murcia tomato exports decreased by 16.47%, going from 97.22 million kilos in 2016 to 81.21 million kilos in 2020. Murcia has also increased its purchases of Moroccan tomatoes.

In 2016, it purchased 91,800 kilos of tomatoes from Morocco. In 2020 that volume had grown to 9.26 million kilos.

Granada
The province of Granada was the country's third-biggest exporter of tomatoes in 2020 with 76.73 million kilos (10.53% of the total in Spain) worth 148.16 million euro and an average price of € 1.93/ kg.

In the last five campaigns, Granada's tomato exports have decreased by 6.31%, going from 81.9 million kilos in 2016 to 76.73 million kilos in 2020.

Tomato imports from Morocco have also increased in this province, going from 8.84 million kilos in 2016 to 12.09 million kilos in 2020, i.e. 36.76% more.
