"It must get a little colder in Belgium to maintain winter vegetables' prices"

“The current winter vegetable situation is very good. More winter vegetables started being sold once the new year started. The classic festive season products have been supplemented by the usual winter vegetables again. There is enough, good quality supply at the moment," says Stefaan Dobbels of the Belgian company, Gerdo.

Leek prices are currently at around €0,60/kg. "That is a good price for a time that is experiencing mild weather. It must become a little colder to maintain these prices," says Stefaan. “Less is being used because of the mild temperatures. Supplies will probably also increase soon. There is a real chance that prices will come under pressure. This may happen halfway through the week."

“Winter vegetables exports are quite good at the moment. But I think this week will be crucial. Stores have replenished their stocks, and now everything must be sold. Hopefully, we will get a little cold weather soon, making consumption rise."

"Tomatoes sales are getting going a little too. That is in addition to traditional winter vegetable sales. We have nice, high-quality Belgian tomatoes in our assortment. Clients who prefer quality chose Belgian tomatoes above those from Spain or Morocco,"  concludes Stefaan.
