Nepal imports 100 tons of onions from China following Indian export ban

Nepal has imported over a thousand tons of onions from China in the last five months. This happened after India, the major supplier of onions to the country, imposed a ban on exports amid rising prices and dwindling stocks.

Of the 1,800 tons kilos of onions imported to Nepal in the last five months, 1000 came from its the northern neighbour. According to official figures, traders spent Rs 80 million importing onions from China.

English.onlinekhabar.com reported that according to Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Development Committee, Chinese onions are now priced at up to Rs 98 in the wholesale market 125 in the retail market even as traders declare the price to be around Rs 77 at the border customs.
