Tjerk Nagel, Konaxx Onions:

"Demand for onions not wild, but broad-based"

According to Tjerk Nagel, there is a reasonable demand on the onion market from the Konaxx Onions onion sorting and packing station in the Frisian Sint Jacobi Parish.

"We are suppling to the Eastern bloc, Africa and orders are coming from the Caribbean and the Far East. All in all, demand is not wild, but it is broad-based."

"The supply is also certain. Something still needs to be done here in the Afland region, because seed potatoes are usually given priority in this area. Fortunately, the quality is good, apart from the usual incidents that you always have. The onion plant were already good and now the onion seeds are good aswell," says Tjerk.

"Prices of the farmer are at a level of around 9.5-10 cents, dried around 11 cents and in the bale around 15-16 cents," Tjerk sums up that he's looking forward to the season with confidence. "I think this mood is widespread in the trade. Customers can buy their onions at acceptable prices. There is a healthy market situation in terms of supply and demand. Everyone is happy with that."
