In the canton of Obwalden (Central Switzerland), a new building for the production of mushrooms was built in 2016 on behalf of Kernser Edelpilze GmbH. The energy and indoor climate concept is an important key to success for substrate and noble mushroom cultivation. The production should be CO2-neutral. For this purpose, the most modern and innovative building technology concept was developed in Europe in all its kind. Mushroom production could be more than doubled thereby. For this achievement, EBP AG has been awarded the Building Award 2019 as overall winner.
Within 8 months, the high-tech production hall was finally built. "When it comes to the building technology of the Kernser Edelpilze company building, we have taken a completely new approach, having made sustainability the top priority, using innovative technologies to minimize the impact on the environment. This was awarded the Building Award by the expert jury," said the management of Kernser Edelpilze.
Mushroom exotics & substrates
Over the years, Kernser Edelpilze GmbH has specialized in the cultivation of high-quality mushroom exotics (including Shimeji and Shiitake) and corresponding substrates. The products are mainly marketed in the domestic market. The substrates from in-house production are also exported to Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Poland.
