Turkey: Record export of apples and oranges

Turkey's orange export volume increased by 21,5% in 2018 compared to 2017 and reached 448 thousand 149 tons, meanwhile apple export volume increased by 35% last year and also reached a record number of 245 thousand 535 tons. This was mainly due to the fact that the orange export destined to Iraq increased by 44% and apple export destined to Russia increased by 349%.

According to Uludag Exporters' Association, Turkish oranges and apples were exported to 69 countries last year.

The revenue generated by the export of oranges increased by 6,3% and totaled 160,6 million USD (140 million Euro). The top importers of Turkish oranges were Iraq, Russia, Ukraine, Romania and Azerbaijan.
The export to Iraq increased by 44% and reached 200 thousand 350 tons. In return of this export, Turkey received 53,4 million USD (46,5 million Euro).102 thousand 626 tons of oranges were exported to Russia in return of 46,5 million USD (40,5 million Euro).

Russia is a major importer of Turkish apples
The export of apples increased  by 35% in 2018 and totaled 245 thousand 535 tons. Apple is a product which is grown almost anywhere in Turkey and the revenue generated from the export of apples increased by 80%, and totaled 95,5 million USD (83,2 million Euro).

Russia, Iraq, Syria, India and Saudi Arabia are among the top importers of Turkish apples. Russia paid 32,3 million USD (28,1 million Euro) for 41 thousand 468 tons of apples.  

The export of apples to Syria increased by 136% and reached 39 thousand 940 tons.

Iraq is another important market for apples. Iraq imported 98 thousand 927 tons of Turkish apples and paid 17,7 million USD (15,4 million Euro) in return.
