Imara Avocado Factory Director Nelson Kamwaro has announced the company's long-term commitment to purchasing avocados directly from farmers in Bungoma County, a move aimed at strengthening market access, stabilizing prices, and empowering growers in one of Kenya's most promising avocado-producing regions. The announcement follows the company's participation in the Bungoma Avocado Industry Engagement Forum, where farmers, cooperatives, and county leaders discussed the future of the sector.
Speaking at the forum, Sales and Project Manager Elazia Clide said Imara is ready to establish a structured off-take program that will give farmers confidence to invest in their orchards and improve quality. Kamwaro emphasized that the company will work closely with farmer groups, SACCOs, and community organizations to improve aggregation, streamline delivery schedules, and introduce quality-assurance guidelines that reduce post-harvest losses and raise earnings.
He added that Imara's broader strategy—expanding production lines, enhancing cold-chain networks, and strengthening traceability systems—depends on fully integrating farmers from regions such as Bungoma, Meru, Murang'a, and Nandi into the supply chain. Elazia noted that the company was impressed by Bungoma farmers' enthusiasm and intends to begin structured procurement in the upcoming harvest season.
Imara's long-term goal is to become one of East Africa's most farmer-centered avocado oil producers by ensuring predictable demand, fair pricing, and sustainable livelihoods for growers.
