Sam Manujith - The Avolution:

"The industry plans to leverage the increased supply to boost usage of avocados"

Western Australia is now in the main production season for avocados, following the completion of the Tristate season.

"Weather conditions in the past two weeks brought challenging rainfall across WA, causing some short-term disruption. Conditions are now clearing, allowing harvest and supply to return to normal," said Sam Manujith, International Sales and Category Manager at The Avolution.

"The Tristate delivered very good volumes and has now wrapped up. The fruit was smaller in size, creating more export opportunities. Western Australia is expected to produce an even bigger crop this year, contributing significantly to the national supply. The fruit size started off with a good range, but a quarter way into the season, the fruit size has jumped up, making export markets that seek small fruit a challenge."

Queensland remains the largest producing region, with Western Australia close behind and increasing its share.

Impact of WA's Big Crop
"The large WA crop is expected to positively impact the market. The industry plans to leverage the increased supply to boost usage of avocados and drive per capita consumption through strong promotional activity. Lower volumes from New Zealand will not affect the Australian market this year, as the strong WA crop is expected to fully compensate."

Market demand
Export markets are performing very well, with Hong Kong continuing to lead. Other export destinations are also showing solid demand.

"The domestic demand is strengthening. Recent rain-related shortages tightened supply briefly, but as volumes recover, retailers are supporting the category with attractive promotions, helping bring demand back to normal levels."
