Berry Forum 2025 to address leadership in European berry sector

Becoming successful in the berry industry is a goal shared by many growers, but it also brings daily challenges and responsibilities beyond producing high-quality fruit. Modern leadership in the sector now requires strategic thinking, technological investment, and skilled team management.

These themes will be discussed at Berry Forum 2025, taking place on November 26–27 at Hotel Mazurka in Ożarów Mazowiecki, Poland. The event will gather growers, researchers, and advisors from across Europe to exchange knowledge and address the current trends and challenges shaping the strawberry and raspberry sectors.

Leadership beyond production scale
While leadership is often linked to large-scale operations, smaller farms can also set benchmarks for quality and innovation. Efficiency, organization, and consistent fruit quality remain the key factors determining success. In recent seasons, several small but well-managed farms have reached export markets, showing that commitment and innovation can outweigh production size.

Innovation as a driver
Modern berry production increasingly depends on the adoption of new technologies. These include advanced tunnel systems, precision irrigation, weather-based monitoring tools, and digital decision-support systems. Such investments enable growers to optimize input use, manage risks, and maintain fruit quality.

Access to new berry varieties is also shaping competitiveness, with growers adopting cultivars offering better post-harvest durability and higher yields. Early adopters often take on higher costs but gain a market advantage through improved product performance.

The role of management and knowledge-sharing
Successful producers combine technological progress with effective team management. Larger farms rely on structured teams of production and logistics specialists, while smaller growers often take on multiple roles themselves. Workforce training, retention, and communication remain essential to maintaining consistent output.

Learning from experienced growers is an important aspect of industry development. Forums such as this provide opportunities to discuss business models, sustainability, and adaptation to climate and market shifts.
