Steady is the name of the carrot game from California

The supply of carrots from California is good right now and it is expected to remain so through the end of the year. "The carrot yields are better this year than last year, mostly due to good weather," says Rob Giragosian with Kern Ridge Growers, LLC.

The company is currently harvesting carrots from the Cuyama Valley, where it started in August. It will continue to harvest in this region until mid November. "We are on time for harvesting," says Giragosian. "The good yields are pushing us to be a little later in the coming plantings but not by much. This will help keep jumbo sizing good over the next few months."

Jumbo market seeing some shifts
Meanwhile, the demand is also steady for carrots. "Carrot pricing has been steady on cellos, tables, and babies. The jumbo market has fluctuated over the last few weeks due to more supply on the market and pricing is slightly lower than this time last year," he says.

Looking ahead, the company anticipates more of the same as it works in this region. In March, Kern Ridge Growers will shift carrot production to the Imperial Valley, which historically has great quality and yields.
