Malang targets full rollout of HIPMI fresh market

Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat has inaugurated the "Kick Off of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) Fresh Market" in collaboration with the Malang City Food Security and Agriculture Agency (Dispangtan). The launch took place in front of Malang City Hall on Friday, 8 August 2025, as part of the Friday Tahes Mbois Gymnastics (STMJ) program, where participants wore red and white costumes to mark the 80th anniversary of Indonesian independence.

According to the mayor, the HIPMI Fresh Market is part of the STMJ initiative, which encourages healthier living habits. He noted that in addition to regular exercise, the consumption of fresh, locally produced vegetables plays an important role in maintaining health.

"The HIPMI Fresh Market will not only promote a healthier community by promoting a love of vegetables, but will also boost the local economy. The various vegetables sold are grown locally in various parts of Malang City," Wahyu said.

He also expressed appreciation for the initiative by HIPMI in partnership with the Malang City Food and Agriculture Service, adding that cooperation between the parties will continue to be strengthened to expand the program's implementation.

HIPMI Malang City Branch Secretary Teddy Oktavianto said that hundreds of vegetable farmers are currently mentored by Dispangtan, but marketing remains underdeveloped. "This is where we play a role in maximizing marketing," he said.

As an initial step, HIPMI plans to improve the distribution of fresh vegetables across the city's 57 sub-districts. "To date, 20 sub-districts have implemented this program, and this year we aim to have it running smoothly in all 57 sub-districts," Teddy said.

The program focuses on connecting local vegetable production with urban markets, aiming to strengthen direct links between growers and consumers in Malang City.
