Tripura boosts organic farming and exports

Tripura's organic agriculture initiative has expanded over 25,000 hectares of certified organic farmland, facilitating the export of 1,332 metric tons of various organic products, including pineapple, bird's eye chilli, ginger, turmeric, and aromatic rice, over the past three years.

This development was discussed at the inaugural Organic Buyer-Seller Conference in Agartala by Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

"The world today is not just demanding food, it demands food that is safe, chemical-free, and traceable," stated Minister Nath. "Organic agriculture is not a fashion. It is a future-ready solution to address global health, climate, and soil challenges. Tripura is not just adopting organic practices; we are building an entire ecosystem from farm to fork."

Minister Nath emphasized the formation of 53 certified organic Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) and the cultivation of high-value crops such as Queen Pineapple, Kew Pineapple, Bird's Eye Chilli, Scented Lemon, Turmeric, and Ginger.

Tripura's organic products are reaching markets across India, such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Guwahati, and international locations like Oman, Dubai, and Dhaka. Recent export volumes include 666 MT of pineapple, 574 MT of ginger, 52 MT of turmeric, and 7 MT of bird's eye chilli.

At the event, Minister Nath remarked, "This Buyer-Seller Meet is not just about trading goods, it's about building trust, transparency, and lasting partnerships." He invited stakeholders to witness the dedication of Tripura's farmers firsthand.
