At growers' association Fossa Eugenia, the new celeriac with leaves is off to a strong start. It is supplied by member Berden Agro in Venlo, which specialises in celeriac, both with and without foliage.

At the moment, the storage season for celeriac is still in full swing. The new crop, featuring fresh leaves, is now becoming available, while tubers without foliage are still being supplied from storage. European supply from storage was limited this season due to a moderate growing period and lower yields in the 2024 crop year. According to the Celeriac Growers Association, as reported in the trade journal De Boerderij, yields for the storage season were below the multi-year average. The wet spring delayed many plantings.

Yields were also lower at Luc Berden: "Our stock in storage was significantly reduced this year. We were worried whether we could bridge the gap until the new season, but in the end, we managed." Due to limited stocks, prices began to rise from February onwards, and a shortage appeared likely for June and July. During last week's warm weather, demand temporarily slowed. Prices and demand have remained stable."

The new season now appears to be starting with a good balance between supply and demand. The market for celeriac is small but stable. Fossa Eugenia expects the availability of old tubers to transition smoothly into the new crop. "The size and quality of the storage tubers currently meet the demand for loose produce, while the new prime crop provides a fresh start for the fresh market with leafy celeriac."

Fossa Eugenia is therefore offering both products from Berden's celeriac range. "This way, customers maintain continuity, and we ensure a year-round supply of celeriac within our broad assortment of fruits and vegetables, fresh from our growers."
