Enoki mushrooms recalled nationwide over listeria risk

Hofood99 Inc., based in Brooklyn, New York, has issued a nationwide recall of its 200-gram packages of enoki mushrooms due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published the announcement on June 11, 2025, the same day the company confirmed the recall.

The affected mushrooms, distributed in retail stores across the country, are packaged in green plastic bags labeled with UPC code 6 976532 310051 on the back. The mushrooms were distributed by Hofood99 Inc., located at 21903 56th Ave, Oakland Gardens, NY 11364.

While no illnesses have been reported so far, the recall follows testing conducted by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (MDARD). Listeria was detected in product samples collected from a retail location in Michigan. Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe and potentially fatal infections in vulnerable groups, including young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. In healthy individuals, symptoms may include fever, headache, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are especially at risk, as infection can result in miscarriage or stillbirth.

Consumers who purchased the recalled enoki mushrooms are urged to either destroy the product or return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
