Cranberries made their first appearance in ads this week, adding extra fall glory to the growing array of pumpkins, acorn and butternut squashes, cabbage, and potted mums. All things pumpkin spice are heavily featured, sometimes in stand-alone sections.
Total ad numbers this week were 291,792, a 1% increase from last week's total of 288,605. The total for the same week last year was 1% lower than for this year. The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 140,424 (48% of all ads), onions and potatoes 32,004 (11%), vegetables 117,053 (40%), herbs 955, ornamentals 946, and hemp 1,365.
The number of ads for organic produce was 41,027, 14% of total ads. The following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year. Significant increases in price for fruit this week included white seedless grapes at 26% and apple juice (64 oz.) at 13%. Significant decreases in price for fruit included Gala apples (3 lb. bag) at 22%, pomegranates at 16%, Gala apples (per lb.) at 14%, and avocados at 11%.
