The United Potato Growers of Canada

2022 Canadian potato production follow-up

Last week, Freshplaza published an Overview of 2022 Canadian potato production. However, as new data has been considered, the United Potato Growers of Canada has issued the following statement regarding these numbers:

"Following a discussion with our Quebec members we want to inform you that they feel the production numbers recently reported are overstated, indicating that the potato production in the province may actually be decreased from 2021 levels, not an increase as originally published."

"These figures are submitted to Statistics Canada by the Institute for Quebec Statistics and we are working with all parties to investigate any potential errors or overstatement, both in planted acres as well as overall potato production. In the meantime, we wanted you to be aware of the dispute and have indicated as such in the revised report."

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will keep you updated on the situation as it develops."
