Entering the first season shipping Golden Hami melons

As California winds down its seasonal production of Golden Hami melons, its supplies are becoming very limited. However, Seeded Produce is shipping its first season of Golden Hamis that are coming from Southern Mexico.

“The Golden Hami Melon is a very sweet melon. It’s a very firm and crunchy melon and the vigorous vine allows you to develop high Brix while keeping the melon very firm,” says Omar Losolla of Seeded Produce, adding that it will have availability of the melons through December. “It is truly a fantastic eating experience, with earthy flavor mixed with very high sugar content. This is the first time we're growing this variety, so for us, the timing couldn't be better.”

Good Hami consumption
Demand for this melon is steady and strong says Losolla. “Consumption of melons is always somewhat lighter during the fall and winter but we expect consumption to be at its peak during the spring,” he says.

As for pricing, he says fall prices have yet to be determined for the melons. “Mother Nature is our biggest challenge and as with any other commodity, having the perfect growing conditions seems to always be a challenge. However we expect to have good production, good prices and excellent quality,” Losolla says.
