Drop in supply influences fruit and vegetable prices Brazil

The lower supply of fruits and vegetables recorded in the main wholesale markets in the country influenced the recovery of prices According to the 10th Bulletin of the Brazilian Horticultural Market Modernization Program (Prohort), released last Tuesday by  the National Supply Company (Conab), the upward behavior in prices was verified for potatoes, carrots, onions, bananas, oranges, apples and papayas sold in the main Supply Centers in September.

In the case of potatoes, the increase reverses a downward movement in prices since May this year, with a weighted average increase of around 18.49%. The biggest increase was registered in Ceasa of the Federal District (71.54%), followed by Espírito Santo (32.96%) and Rio de Janeiro (31.98%).

This increase in prices must be attributed to the lower supply of the tuber from Minas Gerais and São Paulo. Shipments from producers in São Paulo decreased by 8% and from Minas Gerais, by almost 30%.
