Costa Rica proud to airfreight first pineapples to new market of Israel

The "pride of the Ticos” namely the first pineapple exports from Costa Rica, arrived in their newly opened market of Israel by airfreight. According to Abel Chaves Trigueros, President of Costa Rica’s National Chamber of Pineapple Growers and Exporters (CANAPEP): “We are excited on the occasion of the arrival for the first time in Israel of our pineapples by air. With the pineapple of Costa Rica ‘pride of the Ticos’ we will began to build a new consumer market.”

Alfredo Volio, President and CEO of Upala Agrícola says: “It is with great satisfaction and joy that we announce that our pineapples arrived in excellent condition in Tel Aviv, Israel. We became the first company in Costa Rica to obtain the certificates required to export fresh pineapples directly to Israel. The excellent fruit production conditions that the company has, as well as the traceability controls and the extensive records of all the activities carried out during the production processes, make the difference once again.”

Chaves Trigueros praised the participation of Costa Rica’s Minister of Foreign Trade Manuel Tovar Rivera, as well as the Israeli Agriculture authorities, who jointly celebrated the arrival of Costa Rican pineapples in Israel.

“With the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and its Phytosanitary Service, as well as the accompaniment of the National Chamber of Pineapple Producers and Exporters and the Foreign Trade Promoter, greater opportunities are created for both neighbouring communities and the country in general. From the selection of land and detailed work in all production processes, Upala Agrícola marches at the forefront as a leading company in the production and export of fresh pineapple.

"CANAPEP congratulates the Costa Rican growers and exporters Upala Agrícola as a model company in the production and export of pineapple, who at the time was also a pioneer with the first shipments of pineapples to China.”

According to Chaves Trigueros: “What one day we saw as a dream, is now a reality. Our recognition goes to all the role-players because they put in many months of work together with the authorities of the MAG and SFE, however, I highlight the work of you because you always believed that selling pineapples from Costa Rica, ‘was possible but at the same time a challenge.’ Congratulations, great work to conquer new markets.”

Volio, says it is too soon for Upala Agrícola to mention market prices in Israel yet because they first want to focus on establishing a good presence and growing this new market.

“The issue of prices is a matter that for now we prefer not to mention. The most important aspect is to reach Israel with our fresh pineapples. We want to make a difference with our own characteristics and above all, so that the trade can last for many years. The growth will depend on the reception that the fruit of Upala Agrícola has in the market of Israel. We hope to meet all the requirements but above all, to supply consumers with our fruit that stands out for its unparalleled flavour, for its enormous sweetness, an intense yellow internal colour and above all, that it is a product that is produced with high quality standards, which has for many years reached international markets.”
