Japan has been the main destination for mangoes as well as other exotic fruits, such as Persian Limes, Rambutan and blueberries from the Mexican exporter GreenSky. “Although we started late with the mango exports our supply is strong now. Japan’s prices are always steady. We are able to make agreements for producers because we have been in Japan since 1996,” says Arturo Hernández director of GreenSky.
Hernández says they export several fruit kinds on behalf of producers across Mexico to mainly Japan but also Europe and the USA. “We export mainly to Japan, but we also ship Oriental Veggies to Europe including bitter melon, Indian okra etc.”
GreenSky exports by air and is specialized in the logistics of perishable fruit and vegetables from Mexico to the world. It has offices in Cancun, Guadalajara and Mexico City. Although the increased airfreight costs and inflation are a concern for them, Hernández is looking forward to the newly built airport outside Mexico City to improve exports. “It is hard times for everybody around the world. The new airport will release lots of pressure at the old airport. The new facilities will be of first world standards.”
He is not expecting a major increase in mango volumes from Mexico compared to earlier seasons. “As the market becomes more vibrant that translates into more and more orders,” states Hernández.
