“The apple harvest in Ukraine was good this year”

The Ukrainian apple season is competing with the large production of other countries, which has meant prices are lower this year. Overall the harvest itself is of solid quality and quantity, says one Ukrainian apple exporter.

According to Garik Andriasyan, director of Ukrainian fruit exporter Gold Scorpion, the Ukrainian apple season had a pretty good harvest this year: “The apple harvest in Ukraine was good this year, overall both the quality and quantity were not bad and the weather did not have a negative impact on the produce. Unfortunately, the sales volumes are lower this season than they were in previous years. For us, our main export markets are Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, the European markets and we have also started some supplies to the Spanish markets.”

When speaking on the prices of the products, Andriasyan states that prices are cheaper all over the market, as there is a large supply. “Prices for the apples have not been stable this year. Compared to last year, prices are lower this season and despite the price being lower the sales are also at a low point. This has to do with the solid harvest in all producing countries. When there is a lot of production, prices naturally drop. On top of that, our main competitor Turkey has very cheap apples this year.”

“I believe that what is happening in the market around the world is mostly because of Covid. People are in a very difficult financial situation and both traders and consumers are looking for the cheapest goods. However, I do think that everything will stabilize soon, although it might not return to the exact same situation it was before the pandemic. However, with some courage, everyone’s situation will improve.” Andriasyan concludes.
