Dennis Blankendaal, Frysk Witlof:

"Chicory prices have been disappointing all year"

Chicory production has been very good in recent weeks, not only for us, but also for others. Unfortunately, the prices have been disappointing all year. The price now amounts to around 1 Euro and you really need to make that," says Dennis Blankendaal, of Frysk Witlof.

Frysk Witlof cultivates between 250 and 280 hectares of chicory with roots of Dutch and Belgian origin each year, making it the largest chicory farm in the Netherlands. "This year, the production is going extremely well, and this also the case in other countries, like France; therefore, there is enough supply on the market."

While chicory consumption traditionally falls during the summer, Dennis is holding out good hope for a market upturn. "A lot of companies will be working at 50% capacity in the coming weeks, and with fewer people going abroad on vacation, I expect consumption will be a bit higher than average."
