Marcel van Rooijen, Trofi:

"Mangos absorbed well by retail all year"

The mango market is currently in a positive flow. "The mangos are absorbed very quickly by the market all year round. They are particularly popular with the German retailers. The last month there were quite a few promotions at the supermarkets, so that certainly helped," says Marcel van Rooijen of Trofi.

"From Peru, the season from Piura is coming to an end and Casma, the last production area in Peru, is coming onto the market. The volumes from Peru are almost the same as last year, although the volumes arrived a bit later than last year. Sales have gone smoothly, but this season we have had a lot of delays to deal with. The availability of containers is not great and with the delays that have been there from Central and South America you can add an average of three to five days per container," says Marcel.

"The price is now rising and that is necessary, because with the fruit from Casma you simply have to deal with a higher cost price. We are now also starting a small program with Keitt from Brazil and the season of the Palmer mangos start with two weeks. The season is also going well qualitatively, we have few problems with the ripening of the fruit. The advantage is that due to the smooth sales at the end of the week, the cold store is empty again, so you can only be positive," the importer concludes.
